New 2016 Chevy Sonic at The Chevy Source for Long Island, NY
Chevrolet Sonic continues to bring new customers to Chevrolet every day with its youthful design, efficiency and the latest connectivity features. Sonic remains on the leading edge of technology in its segment, offering OnStar with 4G LTE and a standard built-in Wi-Fi hotspot that provides a mobile hub for drivers and passengers to stay connected. The hotspot is on whenever the car is on and comes with a three-month/three-gigabyte data trial. Sonic customers can choose between two body styles: a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback in LS, LT, LTZ and RS models.
Under the Sonic's Hood
The standard engine on 2016 Chevy Sonic LS and LT models is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that produces 138 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual transmission with a hill-hold feature is standard, and a six-speed automatic is available as an option. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 30 mpg combined (26 city/35 highway) with the manual transmission and 28 mpg combined (24 city/35 highway) with the automatic. Fuel economy in the LTZ and LT trim is rated at 33 mpg combined (29 city/40 highway) with the manual and 31 mpg combined (27 city/37 highway) with the automatic. The RS trim's sportier gearing results in lower estimates of 30 mpg combined (27/34) with the manual and 28 mpg combined (25/33) with the automatic.
Design of Chevy Sonic
The Sonic's interior reflects its motorcycle-inspired exterior with a detailed instrument cluster featuring a large, round analog tachometer set within an asymmetrical LCD readout, with a large digital speedometer display. Depending on the trim level, Sonic offers two varieties of cloth (LS and LT), perforated leatherette (LTZ) and leather-appointed (RS) seating surfaces. Interior colors and combinations include Jet Black/Dark Titanium; Jet Black/Brick; Dark Pewter/Dark Titanium and Jet Black (RS). Rear-vision camera is standard on LTZ and RS, and available on LT. Also, the available BringGo navigation app, the most affordable navigation system in its class, offers easy-to-use features including 3-D maps with lane suggestions, live traffic data and more. The sedan's 14.9-cubic-foot trunk is among the largest in the segment and can be expanded further with the standard 60/40-split-folding rear seatbacks. The Sonic hatchback offers 19 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 47.7 cubic feet folded down.
The 2016 Sonic sedan and five-door hatchback convey sportiness, strength, stability and refinement from every vantage point. Performance-themed design elements include its wheels-at-the-corners proportions, fender flares and motorcycle-inspired round headlamps. In MyLink-equipped Sonics, owners can use Siri Eyes Free mode to make voice-activated, hands-free calls to iPhone contacts, play songs in the iTunes library, and even switch music sources automatically from AM/FM/XM radio to iPod mode. It also allows you to Listen to, compose and send an iMessage or text message to a phone number or anyone in saved contacts, access the phone's calendar and add appointments, minimize distraction by keeping the screen of the iPhone from lighting up, even when Siri answers simple questions such as game scores or the dates of national holidays. While in Eyes Free mode, Siri will not provide answers to complex questions that require displaying a web page.
